As you know, NYC artist, model and OAK employee Mitch is taking over the @oaknyc Instagram this week. While he shares his favorite OAK pieces, places to go in NYC + current exhibits in the city, he’s also giving us some recommendations on what we should be watching, reading and listening to. Check them out below in his words. Make sure to follow @oaknyc on Instagram this week for more of Mitch’s recommendations.
What to watch:
Dillinger is Dead (1969). Late ’60s night-in-the-life Italian movie about the lavish and surreal lifestyle of a gas mask designer. Great cinematography and soundtrack.
What to read:
Der Struwwelpeter. A late 1800s German children’s book that tells weird stories about the horribly fucked up things that happen to children who misbehave. Really cool illustrations.
What to listen to:
Cukor Bila Smert, a Polish avant garde pop band from the ’90s. Mixed medieval folk songs with atonal pop structure. Super weird and awesome.
On the Way by Jandek. Jandek is a mysterious outsider musician. He’s made over 70 albums over the past few decades, which document his strange, bizarre, stream-of-consciousness style, and mysterious persona. This is his most listenable album.
