@ANTBLUEJR visted us to discuss his artistic background, favorite places, and other things that define him as a creative. Check out the interview below & listen to the mix he made for us.
What inspired you to get into your current work?
A: I’ve always been motivated by curiosity. I moved to new york to pursue a career in photography and
directing. During my free time, i would photograph concerts and that lead me to getting closer and closer to
music. so after watching tons of my fav artists perform , i decided to learn more about music through djing.
What is your go-to music genre?
A: I’d say Hip hop is the foundation, but now-a-days I’m into anything that sounds good, no matter the genre.
Where do you draw your inspiration from when putting together an outfit?
A: I mostly get my inspiration from inside. When im getting dressed, I usually aim for the “how do I feel and how cozy can I be?” technique. I just try to dress like myself as best as possible.
If you could be a painting, which one would you be and why?
A: I would be an Yves Klein painting. Not one specifically, but he created his own hue of Blue and made many works in that blue color palette. Im a big fan of consistency and cohesiveness as far as art goes.
The first thing you do in the morning?
A: Unfortunately I look at my phone then brush my teeth. Sometimes I like to make beats before I eat breakfast to get those early morning ideas out.
Ant wears the massive scarf, dropped lapel coat, arc sweatshirt and leather gloves.
What is your greatest indulgence?
A: Donuts and music.
When you’re dj’ing, how do you select your music? Is there a process for track selection? Or do you just freestyle it?
A: When i dj, i freestyle everything. Ofcourse I read the crowd as well, but i like to tell a story when i spin. I usually start with songs i really really love. If i see people vibing with that sound, I try to go deeper in that pocket or play things that may have come from that sound. The spontaneity of it makes some of the best mixes people could of never imagined.
Somewhere you would like to visit, and why?
A: I would love to spend some time in Africa. I want to learn more about the source of my roots/origins.
Favorite NY spot?
A: My favorite spot in NY would have to be Cheeky Sandwiches. A very rare, and very needed staple to the
food scene here.
